The Upper West Regional Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee has upheld Real 24 Hours FC’s protest against Wa Sombo Freedom Stars regarding the eligibility of Moomin Shaibu in their Matchday 2 middle league game played on June 17, 2024.

According to the petitioner, the player was registered by Wa Young Heroes FC as Halitu Abdulai on the FIFA Connect System, violating Articles 28 (1) (a), 28 (2) (a), and 33 (1) (e) of the Ghana FA Leagues Regulations.

In its ruling, the committee stated, “In accordance with Article 56 of the GFA Statutes (2019), this Disciplinary Committee considered the depositions from Real 24 Hours FC and the Statement of Defense from Sombo Freedom Stars FC, along with their supporting attachments, the reports of the match officials, and other supporting documents of the match.”

This decision is a significant boost for Real 24 Hours FC and a major setback for Wa Sombo Freedom Stars as they now have zero points ahead of the final day tomorrow.

With 3 points and 3 goals awarded to Real 24 Hours FC, they now have 7 points and a 1-goal difference, placing them just behind leaders Wa Sore Nante FC.

Wa Sombo Freedom Stars has been fined GHC 1000.00, with 50% of the amount going to the petitioners.

Meanwhile, Kowie Eva Stars FC lost their protest against Malima FC and was fined GHC 500.00, with 50% of the fine going to the respondent.

In a top-of-the-table clash, Real 24 Hours FC and Wa Sore Nante FC will face off, with the winner taking home the title. Both teams need a win to be crowned champions. However, a draw for Wa Sore Nante FC could still secure them the title, depending on the outcomes of other matches.

If Wa Sore Nante FC draws against Real 24 Hours FC and either Malima FC, T.F Exponential, or both win their respective matches, a playoff will be necessary to determine the winner.

Having played 4 matches unbeaten, Wa Sore Nante FC remains the team to beat for the title. Without any further twists, they are the favourites to win the middle league.

The twists in the middle league continue to unfold. Wa Sombo Freedom Stars were initially favoured to win the league, but the tide turned in favour of Wa Sore Nante FC, seemingly leaving Real 24 Hours FC out of the race.

However, after a successful protest over player eligibility, Real 24 Hours FC has now reentered the picture as a strong contender for the middle league title.

With the final day approaching, the question remains: will we witness yet another twist in this unpredictable season?
