The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nandom and former Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery has admonished his constituents not to vote for Former President Mahama in the 2024 presidential elections because he has just four years to serve.
According to Mr Dery, the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia should be given the nod to serve for eight years.
The Minister of State at the presidency further argued that no politician from the northern party of Ghana may get another opportunity to lead either the NDC or the NPP hence, the need to keep the position for eight years.
“For this year’s election, the president will come from this part of the country. regardless of the party that wins power in the election, a northern will be the president. The interesting question to ask is, do we think after these two individuals we will ever have a presidential candidate from up North?
The one who has the chance to serve for two terms will be accountable to Ghanaians but not the other person who will not have the opportunity to seek reelection.”
Though Ambrose Dery celebrated his long-standing relationship with former president Mahama, he encouraged constituents to choose Dr Bawumia over him.
He said, “I don’t think there is anyone in the NDC in the Upper West Region with a more cordial relationship with John than me. He is my brother.”
Ambrose Dery made the remarks during an engagement with Nandomɛ based in the Northern Regional Capital, Tamale on June 15, 2024.
