The Nandom Municipal Education Directorate in the Upper West Region has held an inter-circuit reading competition for some selected basic schools. The exercise is meant to choose a team to represent the Municipality at the inter-district reading competition to be held in the regional capital, Wa.
The reading competition was organized for pupils in Basic One, Two and Three where two pupils from each level were selected to represent the Municipality.
Madam Pascaline Nifaakang, the Municipal Director of GES for Nandom explained that the program was a USAID Partners of Education program with the theme: Reading: Pathway to the World.
Madam Pascaline added that the program was a USAID Sages reading program that initially involved five regional districts. The program was later extended to include the remaining six districts.
“We started with the school-level reading festival and today we are doing the inter-circuit level competition to get a team to represent the municipality for the inter-district level competition which will involve all 11 districts in the Region and it will be held in the first week of July” she explained.
“We were first in last year’s competition and we are going to do our best to be crowned winners in the next reading festival.”
At the end of the competition, Basic Three will be represented by Patricia Benongle and Arnold Domekyile. Natasha Dery and Fatima Sufian will represent Basic Two and Nancy Gbogryang and Bethila Kuupagr will represent Basic One.
All participants of the reading program were given exercise books, dictionaries and awarded certificates.
