The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nandom Constituency of the Upper West Region has launched its campaign to kick-start the bid to win the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The party organized a health walk around the principal streets of Nandom before converging on St Theresa’s Park where they held a rally and the official campaign Launch.

In his speech, Dr. Richard Kuuire, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the Nandom Constituency, pledged to bring everyone on board for the growth of Nandom and the NDC.

“The main pillars of my leadership will be jobs, education and social development. I am going to be a servant to all and not ‘The Boss’ over any other” he emphasized.

The NDC PC used the opportunity to outline his vision for the people of Nandom, including Agriculture, Education, Health, Infrastructure, skills development and women empowerment, creative art, culture and tourism, sports and lastly security.

On Agriculture, Dr. Kuuire promised to institute and support innovations in the production of compost manure by farmer-based groups across the constituency as well as lobby for the establishment of a farm service centre. Groups and individuals will also be supported to undertake commercial livestock farming.

In the education sector, the Parliamentary candidate pledged to initiate the “MP’s Annual Education Forum” to engage stakeholders. The MP’s Scholarship scheme for tertiary education and an award scheme for teachers. Newly posted teachers will be provided with incentives to attract and retain them in the Nandom Municipality.

There will also be an annual Science, Maths and ICT Quiz for basic schools in Nandom.

Dr. Richard Kuuire also intends to wage a campaign on “preventive health care, sanitation and hygiene and lifestyle changes in the constituency.

Exemplary health personnel will be rewarded through assisted study schemes and other initiatives while also providing an incentive package to attract and retain health personnel.

As a former Director General for the Ghana Prisons Service, Dr. Kuuire intends to strengthen security to prevent and combat violent crimes while also taking steps to complete the stalled Police Station project at Ko.

Community Apprenticeship Programme (CAP), Employment Bureau, support for the Volunteers Saving and Loans Association (VSLA), and facilitation of industrial attachment for artisans and technicians are part of his vision under the Skills Development and Women Empowerment Programme.

On creative arts, culture and tourism, Dr. Richard Kuuire will provide support for the establishment of the Bergyire Foundation (Bergyire Centre of Excellence) where people interested in learning how to make and play xylophones will receive training.

The MP’s annual Dagara Saakumo Competition will also be established while supporting the rebranding of Kakube through the Kakube Planning and Promotion Committee.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Cuthbert Baba Kuupiel, the first District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nandom appealed for unity at all levels of the party to present a formidable force to push the NPP out of office by voting massively for Dr. Richard Kuuire and John Dramani Mahama.

“I lost to my uncle Dr. Richard Kuuire during our internal primaries but that is all in the past now. We have to come together and fight to get our parliamentary candidate elected” he said.

He also explained that the NDC had done a lot for Ghana and the people of Nandom and deserved to be brought back to manage the affairs of the country at large and Nandom in particular.

The creation of Nandom district, the midwifery training college, and the construction of various CHPS compounds, schools, bungalows, and new police stations among several others are evident for all to see.

“I am going to be home here in Nandom to move with our PC to every corner of the constituency to make sure the NDC is brought back to power. The NDC deserves to come and continue with the good works which the NPP is destroying.”

The guest speaker, Peter Lanchene Toobo, MP for Wa West encouraged party members to campaign from house to house and door to door in order for the party to emerge victorious on December 7, 2024.

“Lawyer Ambrose is exhausted and that is why the president has removed him from office so he can rest. It is time for the people of Nandom to also let him go and rest by voting for Dr. Richard Kuuire and John Mahama on December 7.”

He said, “I have known Dr. Kuuire for a very long time and can attest to the good works he has done as Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service. He gave opportunities to many young Ghanaians without looking at their political affiliations. He was removed from office by the Kufuor NPP government but was called to work with the UN and was in charge of the whole of Africa.”

The Member of Parliament (MP) for DBI, Dr. Sebastian N. Sandaare, charged the party faithful in the Nandom Constituency to lead the quest to annex the Nandom seat by ensuring that the NDC won all 11 seats in the Upper West Region.

He said allowing the current MP and the NPP to remain in power would further worsen the plight of the people and that it was time for the NPP to be kicked out.
