The Upper West Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdul Nasir Sani, also known as Chairman Bunas, has condemned recent attacks on President John Dramani Mahama following the appointment of Dr. Hassan Rashid Pelpuo as Minister Designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment.
Chairman Bunas urged party supporters from the region to appreciate the leadership opportunities granted to them, highlighting the region’s significant representation in government. He pointed out that the region already has a Speaker of Parliament and now holds the Labour Ministry portfolio.
“We are fortunate to have Dr. Rashid Pelpuo as Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment. His role reflects President Mahama’s confidence in our region’s leadership. There is even the possibility he could be assigned to another ministry during Mahama’s tenure. I urge the youth to express gratitude rather than question the President’s decision. It’s important to acknowledge that having both the Speaker of Parliament and a minister from our region is a great advantage,” Chairman Bunas stated.
His remarks come in response to a press conference held by a group, the Concerned Youth of Upper West, who expressed dissatisfaction with Dr. Rashid Pelpuo’s appointment to the Labour Ministry. They had hoped he would be assigned to the Interior Ministry, as was earlier speculated.
The group argued that the positions allocated to the region do not reflect the massive electoral support the NDC enjoys.
There are rumours that the press conference may have been influenced by individuals affiliated with Dr. Rashid Pelpuo. However, the lawmaker has not confirmed or condemned the actions of the youth group.
